Long Term Care Insurance Deduction

IPOne will stop collecting WA Cares Premiums from Individual Providers.  All Individual Providers will be refunded WA Cares Premiums collected since January 1, 2022 in accordance with the law.  The Department of Social and Health Services is working with IPOne to return collected premiums as quickly as possible.

Background

The Washington State Legislature established a long-term care insurance benefit, called WA Cares, for all eligible workers to address the future long-term care crisis.   On January 27, Governor Inslee signed two bills passed by the Legislature making key improvements to WA Cares Fund. These reforms will address coverage gaps and delay program implementation by 18 months. Changes include:

  • Workers near retirement (born before 1968) will be able to qualify for partial benefits on a pro-rated basis.
  • Workers who live out of state and work in Washington, military spouses, workers on non-immigrant visas, and certain veterans with disabilities will be able to opt out of the program if they choose.
  • Workers will begin contributing to the fund in July 2023. Employers will refund any premiums collected in 2022 so far.

Visit www.wacaresfund.wa.gov or email wacaresfund@dshs.wa.gov for more information. You can also sign up for a live webinar on the “learn more” page of the website.

A paper check will be mailed to your address on file until the bank account information is verified, which completes the Direct Deposit setup.
